WHAT IS WIG SHOP?

Wig Shop is an online-only webstore that specializes in indie and self-published comics, art books, and more. Limited editions, risoprinted zines, European imports – that sort of thing. It’s a solo operation that I run out of my basement in Denver, Colorado, outside of my day job (my wife and I moved from Brooklyn to Denver in 2017). I’m an avid reader and collector and am always looking for exciting things for my shelves, and if you feel the same way you might like it here. The shop is very active on Instagram, which is probably the best way to stay up-to-date with what’s new.

WILL YOU STOCK MY STUFF?

Maybe! But because I’m a one-man operation, books/artworks/etc really need to resonate with me if I’m going to be able to sell them. If it’s not my style, I’ll pass. That’s not to say your work’s not good, just that some guy in Denver wasn’t crazy enough about it to bring 10-15 copies into his home. Look at what’s currently in stock to get an idea of the Wig Shop spirit. There’s a terrific community of artists, illustrators, printers and more at the heart of all this, and all the better if our connection means strengthening that web. DM me on Instagram or email me through the contact page and we can discuss.

WHAT ABOUT MY $5 MINICOMIC?

Ay, there’s the rub. Because of transaction fees and more on the back end of Wig Shop, inexpensive issues are difficult for an outfit like mine. The cost/profit situation makes it a little prohibitive to sell things that you’d find on the zine rack of your local brick-and-mortar.

YOU HAD SOMETHING COOL ONE TIME AND IT’S SOLD OUT. ARE YOU GETTING MORE?

Because Wig Shop is run out of my home, I try to keep inventory levels low and fluid. Further, lots of items are limited runs, so if you see something you like, I’d recommend snagging it.

DO YOU DO GIFT CARDS?

I’ve done a few in the past – I may set something up with squarespace down the line but until then, I can keep a balance on file for your gift recipient and they can contact me directly and chip away at it. It’s fun and old fashioned that way. Send me a message if you’d like to discuss.

I LEFT A PASSIVE-AGGRESSIVE COMMENT ABOUT INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING ON YOUR INSTAGRAM. DID YOU SEE IT?

Sure did! Let’s talk about it. Rates fluctuate dramatically based on the weight of the item and where you’d like it shipped. I have set a flat rate for all international orders that should cover sending a moderately heavy book across the globe. If you pay an amount and the shipping cost ends up being substantially less, I’ll refund you the difference. If you’re ordering something and the rate seems high, please contact me we can discuss options. I would be happy to customize a quote for you.

I remain hopeful that Wig Shop may someday become a global shipping nexus that can please everyone. But until then, please reach out to discuss if you have a problem with the rates you see.

WHO DID YOUR LOGO ARTWORK?

Josh Pettinger, creator of the terrific Goiter. His books are often in stock, and more info can be found at www.goitercomics.com.

Where did the name come from?

A work on paper by New York School poet/artist Joe Brainard, who is a favorite in our house. The piece is one of Brainard’s celebrated riffs on Bushmiller’s Nancy — this one features Nancy’s hair on a stand in a window, below a sign that reads “WIG SHOP.”
